Creamy Matar Paneer Recipe - Perfect for Family Dinners
Matar Paneer is a popular vegetarian dish that originated in Northern India. It is a flavorful combination of green peas and soft paneer in a rich and creamy tomato-based gravy. Here's how you can make it at home:
Ingredients:
- 200 grams paneer, cut into cubes
- 1 cup green peas
- 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
- 2 medium-sized tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 2-3 green chillies, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 cup cream
- Salt to taste
- Oil for cooking
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When they start to crackle, add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies, and sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and garam masala powder, and mix well.
- Cook the masala for 2-3 minutes until the oil starts to separate from it.
- Add green peas and mix well. Cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes until the peas are cooked.
- Add paneer cubes and mix gently. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the paneer cubes are heated through.
- Add cream and mix well. Add salt to taste.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens slightly.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or naan.
