Creamy Matar Paneer Recipe - Perfect for Family Dinners

Matar Paneer is a popular vegetarian dish that originated in Northern India. It is a flavorful combination of green peas and soft paneer in a rich and creamy tomato-based gravy. Here's how you can make it at home:
 
Matar Paneer

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams paneer, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2-3 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When they start to crackle, add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies, and sauté for a minute.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  4. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and garam masala powder, and mix well.
  5. Cook the masala for 2-3 minutes until the oil starts to separate from it.
  6. Add green peas and mix well. Cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes until the peas are cooked.
  7. Add paneer cubes and mix gently. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the paneer cubes are heated through.
  8. Add cream and mix well. Add salt to taste.
  9. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens slightly.
  10. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or naan.
