Crispy Aloo Chop - A Classic Indian Street Food Snack Recipe
Aloo chop is a popular street food snack in India, made with boiled potatoes and spices, coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried to crispy perfection. It's easy to make at home and makes for a delicious and satisfying snack. Here's how to make aloo chop:
Ingredients:
- 4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
- 2 green chillies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, add the boiled and mashed potatoes, chopped onions, coriander leaves, green chillies, grated ginger, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Mix well until all the ingredients are well combined.
- Shape a small portion of the mixture into a flat, round patty. Repeat with the remaining mixture to make more patties.
- In a separate bowl, add the breadcrumbs.
- Dip each potato patty in the breadcrumbs, ensuring it is evenly coated on all sides.
- Heat the oil in a deep frying pan on medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, gently drop the potato patties in the oil, a few at a time.
- Fry until the patties turn golden brown, flipping them over once or twice during cooking.
- Remove the aloo chops from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain the excess oil.
- Serve hot with mint chutney or tomato ketchup.
Tips:
- You can add more spices or adjust the spice level to your liking.
- If the mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs to bind it together.
- Ensure the oil is not too hot, as it can burn the aloo chops on the outside while leaving them uncooked inside.
