Gulab Jamun

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp ghee or clarified butter
  • 2-3 tbsp milk (as needed to make a dough)
  • Oil or ghee for deep-frying

For Syrup:

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/2 tsp rose water

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add powdered milk, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and ghee. Mix all the ingredients well.
  2. Add milk little by little and knead the mixture into a soft dough. Make sure the dough is not too sticky.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  4. In the meantime, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, add sugar, water, cardamom powder, and rose water. Bring it to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves. Turn off the heat and set it aside.
  5. After 10-15 minutes, knead the dough again and make small balls out of it. Make sure there are no cracks on the surface.
  6. Heat the oil or ghee in a deep pan on medium heat. Once the oil is hot, reduce the heat to low and add the dough balls slowly.
  7. Fry the balls until they turn golden brown in color. Keep stirring occasionally to ensure they are cooked evenly. It takes about 5-7 minutes to cook.
  8. Once the balls are cooked, remove them from the oil and put them in the syrup. Make sure they are completely submerged in the syrup.
  9. Let the Gulab Jamuns soak in the syrup for at least an hour before serving.
  10. Garnish with chopped pistachios or almonds and serve warm or chilled.
Enjoy this delicious dessert with family and friends!
