Kada prasad

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup wheat flour (also called atta)
  • 1 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • A few strands of saffron (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a heavy-bottomed pan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. In a separate pan, heat the ghee over low heat until it melts.
  3. Add the wheat flour to the melted ghee and stir continuously over low heat until the flour turns golden brown and releases a nutty aroma. This should take about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Add the hot water to the wheat flour and ghee mixture, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
  5. Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves completely.
  6. Add a few strands of saffron, if using, and continue to stir until the mixture thickens and begins to leave the sides of the pan.
  7. Remove the pan from the heat and transfer the mixture to a greased plate.
  8. Using a spatula or the back of a spoon, press the mixture firmly into the plate to create an even layer.
  9. Let the Kada Prasad cool for a few minutes, then cut it into small squares or diamond-shaped pieces.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Make sure to stir the wheat flour continuously while roasting it in ghee to prevent it from burning.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pan to prevent the mixture from sticking or burning.
  • If the mixture becomes too thick, add a little more water to loosen it up.
  • You can garnish the Kada Prasad with chopped nuts, such as cashew or pistachios, if desired.

And there you have it, a simple and delicious Kada Prasad recipe that you can make at home. Whether you're serving it as a prasad or just enjoying it as a sweet treat, this traditional Punjabi dessert is sure to satisfy your cravings.
